CFA/Work Day

Students took a standards-based short formative test on Google classroom and then continued working on their papers. ABSENT STUDENTS NEED TO COME TO AOT BLOCK A TO MAKE UP THE CFA BY FRIDAY.

Friday 1/31/2020
Last day to prepare 1st draft

The rough draft of the essay is due Monday for 40 points. This is an ALL or NOTHING grade. With the exception of students who have been absent, all students must have a completed first draft of their food waste essay ready at the beginning of class.

Monday 2/3/2020
Vocab/Peer Reviews

Students wrote down the words and definitions for lesson 15. They printed out the D1 of their papers and began some peer feedback. We'll continue tomorrow.

Tuesday 2/4/2020
Vocab/more peer reviews

We reviewed the definitions of this week's words and students wrote original sentences. After that, we did a little more peer-reviewing. As I was out sick yesterday, it wasn't a particularly well-organized activity, but students did get some feedback on their essays.

Wednesday 2/5/2020
Paragraph development

In our short period today we focused on the essential components and organization of a body paragraph. Some classes had time to peer-share their papers, but for most we'll continue this tomorrow.

Thursday 2/6/2020
Integrating Quotes

We workshopped the vocab sentences for lesson 15 and I moved the test to Monday. After a mini-lesson on how to integrate quotes with their own writing, students revised their quotes in their papers. If they didn't finish in class, this is ASSIGNED HOMEWORK.

Friday 2/7/2020
Work Day

Final draft of Food Waste essay is due Monday.

Monday 2/10/2020
Essays due

Students spent the period printing, highlighting, and preparing a self-reflection for their essay on Food Waste. They turned in their final draft, organizing chart, 1st draft, self-evaluation, and rubric.

Students took their vocab test on lesson 15, and the students who needed to re-test for their CFA did their test corrections. The rest of the class had a word search on Dracula they could do, or they could work on homework for other classes. IF ABSENT, YOU MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO DO THE TEST CORRECTIONS FOR THE CFA.

Vocab/Gothic literature

Students wrote down the words and sample sentences for vocab lesson 16. I distributed a primer on Gothic literature that I modeled how I wanted them to annotate so that they would be prepared for a timed open-note quiz tomorrow. They spent the period working on this.

Wednesday 2/19/2020
Gothic Fiction open-note quiz

This took the whole period for most of the students on this short day. Absent students will start to make this up tomorrow, and if needed, finish during AOT.

Thursday 2/20/2020
Vocab/Dracula

Vocab review/write original sentences for lesson 16. Finish Gothic Fiction open-note quiz - students who didn’t can come to AOT to finish. Students were assigned to annotate the articles introducing Dracula and addressing why anyone should bother reading the novel (2nd page after the Gothic Fiction Overview). I will evaluate their annotations of this tomorrow.
