Vocab/finish ch 4

After reviewing the definitions of the vocab words for ch 4, the students and I finished reading ch 4. Homework tonight: finish the character map (ON WHITE PRINTER PAPER) - due tomorrow!

Character map due/Ch 4 rdg Qs

Students turned in their character maps and 1st quarter hall passes for extra credit. They had the rest of the shortened period to work on the reading Qs for ch 4 on Google classroom ("Ch 4 Thinking and Writing").

Thursday 10/3/2019
Work Day

Students had the whole period to work on all the activities for chapter 4: all due by the end of class tomorrow (Friday). 

Friday 10/4/2019
Work Day/End of Quarter

Students had the whole period to finish all the activities for ch 4. Anyone who didn't finish has until Sunday night at 9 pm to turn in all the activities to Google classroom.

Begin class discussion of ch 4

Students had time in class to find text evidence for the reading Qs for ch 4 (submitted already in Google classrooms - I suggested they use post-its to mark the pages where they found text evidence rather than going back into their already submitted responses), and then we began discussing the characters in this chapter. We'll continue tomorrow.

Finish ch 4/vocab

We finished our discussion of the reading Qs and Quickwrite for ch 4. I distributed and read aloud a letter John Steinbeck wrote about the character of Curley's Wife, and students wrote a response to the letter and turned it in (see Honors 9 class resources for this). Finally, they were assigned to define and write original sentences for each of the 10 vocab words for both chs 5 and 6 (this is in the novel packet with the hands holding a mouse on the front cover) - due tomorrow for review in class.
